About us

Our mission is to provide an artistic and commercial platform to develop quality contemporary music for music lovers.

Operating from a state-of-the-art studio facility in Surrey (England) formerly owned by Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music, we have an independent record label and a music publishing business under the Songphonic brand.  Over 95% of our music is original, is recorded in our studios and is published by Songphonic Music.

We are fanatical about good songs, musicianship, production and sound quality. We believe in 'less is more' except when it comes to energy and groove.

We only sign on artists who can write or co-write their own material and who can withstand the ups and the downs of the journey with us. We focus on album artists and will not release a single until an album is well under way.

We have surrounded ourselves with great writers, musicians, arrangers and producers and we are always on the lookout for more. Songphonic has a house band which play and record regularly with our artists and sometimes we just play for the fun of it. One day we may release those recordings...

We have the facilities, expertise and the resources to produce most media in house (audio, video, DVD, web, photography and print) and we like to work with the best people who share our values when we go outside.

In order to focus on our artists and music we plan to remain a world-class boutique (much like ECM or Blue Note used to be) with a very high quality catalog and partner with other companies around the world for licensing and distribution.

About our founder

Osman Kent, an accomplished musician and a producer, is a seasoned high technology entrepreneur who has founded and led successful technology start-ups since 1983 on both sides of the Atlantic.

Most recently Osman was the founder and CEO of 3Dlabs - a NASDAQ listed semiconductor company which pioneered the 3D graphics revolution on the PC.

Osman is the executive producer of all our artists. On some of the tracks, he co-writes, plays and sometimes engineers. His engineering passion is mastering and he mastered numerous albums, ranging from classical to jazz to world music.

He has a First Class degree in Electronics Engineering and Computer Science and he is the inventor or numerous patents in the field of graphics and electronics.  He also has a deep passion for photography (many pictures on this site are his) and is proud to have been a Photoshop user since version 1.00.
